Owl or E.T. Cluster NGC 457 - Caldwell 13
|
NGC 457 haf been termed the Owl Cluster, but 20 years ago earned the name the E.T. cluster. Can you see the two large eyes above the
thin body with widely stretched arms? The object is as beautiful through the eyepiece of a small telescope as it appears here in this image.
This cluster resides somewhere between 2 and 10 thousand light years away, depending on the reference, in the constellation Cassiopeia.
Either way, it's a long distance call for E.T to phone home!
This image combined 90 minutes each of red, green and blue exposures obtained with an ST2000XM camera unbinned through a TEC140
refractor.
