A total lunar eclipse occurs when the earth's shadow falls on the moon, which can happen as often as twice a year, but not always visible from our side of the planet. This October 2004 event coincided to the moment that the Boston Red Sox defeated the Saint Louis Cardinals (also red) in the World Series. Everyone in St. Louis saw a "bad moon rising" that night!
This image combined 3 red and green exposures of 5 seconds with 3 blue exposures of 10 seconds, using an ST10XME camera through a 4" refractor. And just a touch of Photoshop! |
