Sharpless 2 - 140 Emission Nebula in Cepheus
|
Sharpless 2 - 140 is a cloud of mostly hydrogen gas illuminated by ultraviolet light of newborn stars. It
resides 3,000 light years away in the constellation Cepheus. An image taken in infared by the Spitzer
Space Telescope has shown complex molecules, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, that emit infared
light.
This image combined 112 minutes through H-alpha, and 36 minutes each through red, green and blue
filters, using a QSI-583wsg camera through an Astro-Physics 12" Ricardi-Honders Astrograph at f3.8.
