Caldwell 33-34
What is a nebula?  The term is taken from the Latin word for cloud.  It applies to just about any hazy object seen through a telescope, so that it appears “nebulous.”  In astronomy, the “nebula” can be bright illuminated gases such as in the Helix Nebula, or a dark cloud of dust as in the Horsehead Nebula.  The clouds of gases can represent the birthplace of stars (which I will show you with the Cocoon Nebula) or the death of stars, such as in supernova remnants….
